Hi everyone. Decided I might as well join in. Just got a K10dD about a week ago with 2 manual lens (Pentax 50mm/2.5 and Tak 135. My first venture from point and shoot. Thanks to a multitude of good info on this site I'm actually learning how to use it in manual mode and having fun. The color is just awesome and focus not that difficult after a little practice. I also got the book "Understanding Exposure", which has helped a bunch. I should have a 18-55 al (2) kit lens arriving next week.

Hi there! It sounds like you're taking exactly the right approach: master the fundamentals of focus and exposure, then you can transfer those skills to any camera you ever use. Welcome to the K10D club.

Available light at Christmas event

Hi all -- I took photos at our Town of Brentwood, Essex, ( England) 'switch-on of Christmas Lights' event and got 9 photos used in a local newspaper - NO FEE but they gave me my usual invite to the Staff Christmas Dinner and two presents ! On the stage I used ISO 800 and 'Tungsten' balance once the daylight had faded and had to use some 'Minus' exposure compensation because of the dark background . Our Lady Mayor switched on the lights with Britsh TV Character 'Postman Pat' and her Grand-children and the winner of her Christmas Card Design Competition. I used my 'Gift' 35-80mm f4-5.6 SMC Pentax-F lens for all except the close-up of the child's face ( 75-150mm f4 SMC Pentax-M at full aperture)

Oh my goodness,

Very well done indeed. Once again the colors produced by the K-10 can't be beaten. I have had a lot of DSLR's including my latest K-50 and
the K-10 beats them all colorwise. Good job

Regards,

Gavin

Thought I would join in. I picked up a K5 a while back but am now back to using my K10D. I'm probably just being an old fogey buy I just love those K10D colors. Besides, when you get used to the way a camera works it is hard to readjust to something new.

Since XMas is the perfect time to enjoy the great K10D colors I will be posting some results real soon.

Gee, that sounds just like me!

We are currently having a run of afternoon storms so I took the K10D down to the beach as today's storm clouds built up. It all looked very ominous but all we got was a few drops. But it did provide the conditions for some good photos. The first one was taken with a Tamron SP 10-24mm, second one with DA 18-55mm WR.

Thank you! Yes, it was quite frosty, but absolutely beautiful. What I love most with the K10D, is the color rendition; never need any pp for correction!

Beautiful shot!

Here's one that did require a little pp:

Working with the K-10 reminds me of shooting with film. there are limitations to be aware of, but the results can be oh so pleasing.
