I can't feature going without a grip, after only using mine for a couple of days! Boy, is my face red; as I was absolutely 100% sure I would never own/use one!

I also love the feature of carrying an extra battery & SD card, in case either is needed; works very well!

It is good to hear that you like the grip now that you have tried one. It was the first accessory I bought when I got my K10D and I have never regretted it. The camera feels quite strange without it. Yes, it does add a little extra weight but you soon get used to it.

When I recently bought my K-3 I ordered the grip at the same time...of course! If you think a K10D + grip is heavy, wait until you hold a K-3 + grip. But I wouldn't have it any other way.

And when it comes to shooting in portrait mode you can't beat having the grip then. Keep persevering with it, Paul. You'll get used to it.

I have a pristene K-10 with just over 2000 accuations on it but I just got another K-10 in excellent condition with 12,000 accuations on it.
the new one also has a Katz-Eye split prisim in it and I have old eyes. I will be giving one of them to my Daughter in Law soon so my question
is: Which one should I keep. They both produce excellent photos.

Hi Gavin. Keep the K10D with 2000 actuations for yourself, but move the Katzeye into that camera if you find the split-prism helpful. If you'll be using manual focus lenses then the Katzeye will be a huge help for focusing, with the only downside being that you won't be able to spot meter accurately. Although matrix and centre weighted metering will still work fine.

Swapping the focusing screens is a simple job. Just work in the most dust-free environment possible and follow the instructions on the Katzeye website: http://www.katzeyeoptics.com/files/install5.pdf

If you really don't like the idea of swapping screens but you really want the Katzeye, keep the camera with 12,000 clicks instead. That's still very low mileage for a K10D.


EDIT: I forgot to mention that swapping the screens will probably also mean re-shimming to make sure focus is accurate. So on second thoughts it's probably not worth the hassle for a 10,000 click difference. Some people take that many shots on a single vacation. Pioneer's solution is simpler.

I shoot only MF so yes the Katz eye will probably help me a lot. It might be a hassle to switch them out so Ill keep the one with the 12,000 clicks.
