The K10D Club!

I was down a the beach today and got the urge to use the K10D with my 18-55 mm WR kit lens which I have not used for a while. It still performs as well as it always has. Nothing wrong with this kit lens.

.... that does look very good..

I'm still trying to work out what I want to do re a wider lens. I should just buy a second hand kit and see if I like the wide end really.

Thank you. Re a wider lens: I continue to be amazed by my new DA 15 mm Limited. I am using it much more than I anticipated.

It really kinda does.. It's the haze in the top right that leads itself to that

Who said sharpness was everything?

Thanks guys. It did turn out better than expected. The bright afternoon sun was just to the right of the frame, so I was cupping my left hand against the right side of the hoodless Zenitar. That, and wobbly footing on the rocks could account for some of the softness - but in the end it seemed to work out!

The Zenitar 16mm has a naturally painterly rendering and you've used that to wonderful effect.

On the technical side of things, are you still using the Zenitar with the clear rear filter in place? It's much sharper without it, once you've readjusted for infinity focus.

Either way, it's a beautifully composed photo.

. Dave, the rear filter is still in place on my Zenitar - I guess I'm not brave enough to do surgery on my lens just yet! I'll probably remove it and play around just to see the difference though. Here's another one from the same day. Again, there was strong late afternoon sun just to the right of the frame.

Paul, I like the way the Zenitar's mild fisheye effect makes the trees seem to curve in at the top -- gives it a slightly surreal almost Maxfield Parrish look.

And now for a confession: I've just ordered a K-S1 at a Black Friday price so cheap (by UK standards) that it would have been crazy not to: £239 delivered including the 18-55mm. Of course I'm still keeping the K10D clone, with the K-S1 intended mainly as a high ISO special for when I need to shoot in low light. If nothing else, it'll be interesting to see how a current generation 20mp CMOS compares with the classic 10mp CCD.

But somehow I feel like a traitor to the K10D cause. . .
