I picked the wrong time to visit, since most of their planes were performing at a show back home in Dallas! Still, it was an interesting visit, as always. Here's a few shots of the C-46F Commando on display. K10D & DA18-55:
More info on the aircraft here: Curtiss C-46F Commando | CAF SoCal

Great pictures of a great bird from a time that is gone... including the fact that if they were to put that "China Doll" name and picture on a plane today, there would be hell to pay from the media and a lot of people...
Times were more simple back then.

Excellent shots, Paul! I especially like #1, and that's a nice format to crop to. What a great-looking aircraft

You got some great images from that trip, Paul. I have enjoyed seeing them all. TFS.

DA18-55 on K10D. I applied an Agfa film emulation in RawTherapee here:

The low-angled light on that shot lifts it above the ordinary. Nice work, Paul.

I agree, the lighting really makes that shot (and, of course, the fact that it's a K10D )... I was struck by the detail on the cob-webs (?) too... nice

That's actually a very convincing recreation of the colour characteristics that I remember from Agfa film. I used to use Agfa 200 ASA slide film when Kodachrome 64 wasn't fast enough (at least until Kodachrome 200 came along), and the warm look of that shot really resembles it. As the Agfa slides have aged over time, even stored in complete darkness, their warmth has changed to an almost sepia effect.

I wonder if there's an "aged Agfa" emulation?

Decades ago I recall shooting Agfa print film on a vacation, mailing the rolls in Agfa processing envelopes as I shot them. The prints came out well and arrived soon after I got back. I liked the color.

Thanks everyone for your comments! We were visiting at my sister's home in Calif. that evening when I noticed the wonderful sunset light. I had to grab the camera and excuse myself for a few minutes! The HaldClut film emulations in RawTherapee have been quite useful when the normal "saturation/vibrance" editor settings don't quite suffice. I think I used the Precisa 100 setting for the teapot windchime. I packed lightly for the trip, bringing only the DA18-55 and 55-300 with me, along with the K10D. Wish I'd had my Taks with me that evening!

I'm going to commit heresy and say that the shot came out so well with the 18-55mm that you didn't need a Tak.
