i might have to starting shooting with that k10d that i acquired from craigslist a couple months ago because of this thread. i know nothing about the camera at this point.

I wondered why I was getting f9-10 apertures on an overcast day, but maybe all of that snow and white sky was brighter than I thought? NAWWWW! I forgot I still had the iso set on 1600 for an indoor shot a couple of days earlier. Ha, ha, ha! While I can see a bit of noise in the shadows, I don't really find it distracting:

Wow, that's impressive for ISO 1600. My habit of underexposing means that I start getting noise as soon as I go over 100, but your photo really shows just how high you can go with the K10D when you get it right.

I love those, and what an amazing location! The colour of the brickwork in the station buildings suggests that it's somewhere up north, but I've got no idea where. And remember that everywhere in the UK is up north from where I live .

The train station is located in Llangollen on the River Dee in northeast Wales. My only regret was that I couldn't spend enough time there to get all of the shots the location deserved.

I usually keep my k10D set on iso 100, but I bumped it up recently as high as necessary to get this handheld Christmas lights in a darkened room shot, in which I think the noise gave an interesting tissue-paperery texture:

Increasingly, I am coming to believe that there is less to fear about high iso noise from the K10D than one is led to believe. In some kinds of exposures, little grain may be apparent in 400 and above iso shots. In others, the noise can be used to creative effect. Would one expect to get noiseless night time or night sky exposures from a K10D at high isos? Of course not! But one shouldn't think of the camera as unusable at those settings.

As for the one lens idea... I hear of so many people both doing and recommending this, but whenever I do it I seem to come across a scene that I simply can't photograph without a different focal length, often because "zooming with my feet" isn't possible without trespassing, wandering onto a busy road, or falling off a cliff
