What’s the story with this one? A chance encounter?

It was a baby grass snake - yoy can egt some idea of the size here

that I found making its way across our lawn. I picked it up to have a look at (and to show my kids there was nothing to fear and show them hoe to tell it apart from an adder). Then I replaced in on the lawn and lay down in front of it with the K-3 on the ground, trying to get a sharp shot when it stopped and raised its head to taste the air. The rest is in the picture

PS - my grandparents used to live just down the road in Harpenden, and I did my A Levels there - nice part of the world

Messing about on the water yesterday. Passing Brixham Breakwater in the first one:

And heading upstream past Dartmouth Castle in this one:

Amazing to think that the little stream called the Dart, that I can cross over on a couple of stepping stones on an afternoon walk, has become such a river in just the 40 miles or so that it takes to reach Dartmouth. Both with the 18-55mm WR.

A friend's daughter made a misidentification between a grass snake and an adder a couple of years ago, and by the time we got her to hospital her left hand was green and the size of a football. She came through it fine, but yeesh that was a scary afternoon.

Thanks Paul. It's the first time I've tried my new profile with the 18-55mm, and it's been a pleasant surprise.

They're not normally considered life-threatening, but different people react differently, and I'm taking no chances - that must have been scary - glad there was no lasting harm.

I agree with Paul. Exceedingly good shots with great processing. Enjoyable viewing.

Today I did something I had not done before. I made the 4 minute walk to the end of the long jetty in the suburb of Long Jetty. Pentax K10D, SMC Pentax-DA 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL WR.

Here is the view from the end of the jetty looking back to the shore:

And here is the view from the shore:
