I love it! Great colors from that Sigma (and the K10D of course).
Cheers. The K10D and Sigma 10-20 combo served me well for about a decade!

Two more from Edinburgh on the same evening, this time aimed towards the setting sun through the haze.

Love the dramatic composition!

From 2012 with the DA18-55 (the same one I've always used)

I came here to ask for opinions for a replacement for my K10D. I opened this thread and decided I'd stick it out longer.

Another K10D would be a perfect replacement.

In my opinion, one does not “replace” a K10D, one chooses a camera to complement a K10D.

Anyone who reads this entire thread finds reports of more than one person who "upgraded" from their K10D with another model, and who sold or gave away his or her K10D, and have later missed their K10D so much that they had to get buy another one. I suggest that anybody who wants to upgrade from a working K10D, simply store the K10D for when you feel called to use it again.

Twice I’ve put my K10D up for sale, and twice I’ve pulled it.

The K20D was a great camera, but mine has since been sold.

The K5 is still a great camera, and was the first camera Pentax made to really change the need for the K10D. But, my lightly used K5 is for sale.

I guess I feel the K10D is just fun to use, and had great colors. It acts more like a film camera than any other I’ve used.

For anyone who asks me if I want to sell my K10D, the answer is "You don't have enough money!".

Like everyone above says, no matter which other cameras you own you should still hang onto your K10D. I like to have a CMOS camera handy purely for high ISO, but there are only two other cameras in the world that I'd personally want to use other than my GX-10/K10D for my Dartmoor shots: the 645D with its medium format CCD, or the Leica M9 with its FF CCD. And since those are both waaaay out of my price range, I'm going to be here in this club for the duration.

Love the Edinburgh shots. I think only people who have visited there will understand just how hard it is to capture the tones of that stonework well. The bright bits can be very bright when the sun hits them, while the dark bits just seem even darker. It's enough to make a photographer need a soothing wee dram of whisky, which luckily does seem to be widely available there.

Almost the same goes for my K110D, my first Pentax dslr. When I got my K10D, I still found it handy to have the K110D available for testing a new bargain lens I'd ordered, while I was doing something more serious with my K10D and another lens. Also, the K110D, having fewer features, is simpler to use, especially with certain lenses. Having a CCD sensor, like the K10D, the humble K110D has great colors. So what if it only has 6 megapixels! It's a fun little camera.

Now that I've got a nearly new K-R, I get to explore CMOS land, slightly higher resolution, and higher ISOs with less noise, but the K-R (based on threads about it) is less compatible with pre-PK-A mount lenses. In fact, I might mainly use it with my very small set of AF lenses. Consequently, my K10D remains the flagship of my Pentax dslr fleet, the most versatile and dependable one of the bunch...also the one to pair with a WR lens, if I ever have one.

Thanks, Dave. I had more than my fair share of "wee drams" when I was there. And, as you implied, I think they helped me to cope with the bright and dark bits! Or maybe they helped me to not notice them... I can't remember which. In any event, it's a great place for photography; especially with a K10D.

Thanks, Ray One of these days I'll unscrew that old F35-80 from the camera! It's not that it's that great, but the FL seems to fit my shooting style. It's become my everyday kit lens I guess...
