I shoot my K10D at iso 100 nearly all of the time, but whenever I have needed to bump the iso to 200 or 400, I've never seen it cause any problem. On rare occasion I will go higher, and also not find any serious issue.
I have found a correctly exposed high ISO can be pretty good, especially with some good noise reduction in post processing. Problems occur when setting 800\1600 for a scene which really requires 3200 (not available of course).

I have the in-camera noise-reduction on, which I expect makes some difference.

Who needs lawn grass, if you have violets and bugleweed (Ajuga reptans)?

Another sail day for the remote controlled boats on our lake. K10D and Tamron AF 70-300mm F4-5.6 Tele-Macro. How can you not like the colours produced by this combo?

Thank you, Paul. It was an easy day for me but the rescue boat was kept busy as the keels of the boats kept getting caught in the weeds and when that happens they just stop.

Thank you, Russ. For a reasonably inexpensive lens, that Tamron 70-300mm has served me well for over 10 years. It renders colours well (combined with the K10D's CCD sensor, of course) and it is sharp at all focal lengths.

Your boat photos have convinced me that it would be ideal for the Torbay airshow coming up at the beginning of June, so I'm in an auction for one right now (but expect I'll get outbid). It certainly looks a heck of a lot better than the abysmal F100-300 that I used for the airshow last year, and the only other longish lens I've got at the moment is my £5 Palinar 200mm preset.

Very nice shots, Ray. I can tell you from personal experience that the same thing (stopping, that is!) happens to full size sailboats. Been there, done that, racing Tornado catamarans and experimental hydrofoil sailboats on Great South Bay, off the south shore of Long Island. The bay is infested with eel grass and, unfortunately, there is no such thing as a "rescue boat" during a race, so it becomes time to go for a swim!

G'day Dave, I am flattered to know that my images might help with your lens buying decisions. From memory I bought that lens in 2008 for AU$230 and from a quick search you can still get them for that price or cheaper. I saw one on a UK eBay unfinished auction for £67 pounds. Maybe that's the one you are looking at. As you well know, at 300mm it becomes 450mm on APS-C and that would be a useful focal length at an air show.

It is quite light compared to my Sigma 150-500mm which I was also using on my K-3 that day. It doesn't have quick shift and it is not weather sealed but at the price you can't expect that. And it does a half decent 1:2 macro but that is best done with a tripod. It's saving grace is value for money which it has certainly provided for me. I look forward to seeing your aircraft shots.
