Naah, according to the manual putting the camera through the washing machine might damage it. So I just leave it on the roof while I'm driving through the car wash instead.
AAhh you bought the tripod mount suction cup...for just that purpose

A different angle and I might have gotten more of the praying mantis in focus. With the A 70-210 f/4.

I wonder what tales it could tell. The angle you have chosen enhances the mystery.

Thanks folks. My sister and niece have been visiting from Noo Yawk for the past couple of weeks, so I've been using the GX-10 and the K-S1 interchangeably, since the K-S1 is my usual family happysnap camera. I think B&W shots like the one above are definitely better with the GX-10, but I have to admit that I've also started to think that in some light I actually prefer the K-S1's more pastel-like colour rendering. Particularly since I think I've finally managed to get together a profile for the K-S1 that I sort of like (It's actually a modified Leica M8 profile, believe it or not. Makes the K-S1 seem a bit more CCD-like).

Holy moly! Did I just sorta kinda praise a CMOS camera?

I love shots like that. I'm still not sure if it's an aerial photo or some moss.

That is not necessarily a bad thing, Dave. Both types of sensors have their strengths. For me, the key is to know those strengths and to then exploit them when using each type of sensor. You need to know the conditions under which your camera works best but you only find that out through trial and error.

I think I might be preaching to the converted.

Dave, it sounds like we are brothers from a different mother

I also took to be quite fondly of the K-S1. Especially considering how small the thing is... and you are right, the colors are a bit more pastel but there are some colors (like pink) that I haven't seen a better rendering anywhere (of course the sister K-S2 would be the exact same). But compared to other CMOS cameras I've had, the K-S1 does have that slightly more "delicate" rendering, the same way the K10D does. It's more of a natural representation of the scene rather than a "bolder" interpretation - my K50 in particular makes images that aren't as "natural" looking, especially in the transition between colors. But that can be used as an effect as well...

Still, the K10D in my opinion has it all... what I call the "delicate rendering" for lack of a better way of expressing myself, the beautiful colors, a good amount of dynamic range to play with at ISO 100 (I've said this before, but it was such an improvement over my K20D, even though it was going back one generation of cameras and one generation of sensors, in theory!). The K10D is like going back to a more simple, stress-free style of shooting. And I always like to mention, no shutter shock with the K10D! If mine finally bites the dust I'll get another (though it's been behaving better lately, the electronic gremlins and the buttons "pressing themselves" issue that came up last year seem to have reduced a bit... though it still happens)
