Haven't you heard that you can't do BIF with older Pentax cameras? I guess you haven't
No, I haven't..and even if I did I wouldn't pay any attention. I've done Bee in flight photos with the K10D too; Next challenge?

Thank you so much, CR, for your kind words. I'll take that as a compliment. I will try to keep the standard high.

I really like how these colors pop. I wonder if a modern camera like K1 as a variant with a CCD sensor would sell. Since Ricoh do some IR models, why not an CCD limited edition.

A full frame CCD camera from Pentax would be a wonderful thing, but sadly I don't think it'll ever happen. CCD sensors have to be made using a specialised production process, while CMOS sensors can be made in the same factories that produce other types of computer chips too. That's the main reason why CMOS has taken over in the digital camera world, because it's cheaper and more profitable. When I think of the amazing quality of full frame CCD sensors that we'd have by now if it hadn't been for the cost factor, it's really quite depressing.

For us CCD fans, the 10MP sensor in the K10D was really the peak of the technology at APS-C size. For full frame we'd have to hand over a lot of cash for a used Leica M9, or we could go medium format with the Pentax 645D. New CCD cameras would certainly be possible, since CCD sensors are still made for other high-tech applications, but the prices of any new cameras using them would be eye-wateringly high because of the manufacturing costs.

But think about it this way: the K10D is probably the best bargain around for the quality you can get for the price. You could buy a dozen used K10Ds for the price of one used M9, and all the Pentax lenses you need for the price of one Leica lens.

I have CCD in both K-10 and 645D. A used 645D can be had for somewhere between $1,500 and $3,000 depending on condition, number of shutter clicks, and whether lenses are included. The 645D does very well even when you have only one normal lens, the great FA 645 75mm, or if you are not into autofocus, there are lots of A-lenses available for around $100 each, including the fantastic 120mm-A 645 macro, one of the best macros on the market in my opinion. I do not believe there would be much point for Pentax to produce a CCD K-1 when these advanced medium format cameras are so readily available for fans of the CCD sensor.

Beautiful! I'm guessing it's sunrise due to the appearance of frost on the grass...?

Rayallen, when I see picture like yours I thin the K10D has still a lot to say. I love its colours.

A standing stone at Merrivale, part of a prehistoric complex of standing stones, burial kists, and a stone row. The carved letter A is of uncertain date but obviously more recent, which in Dartmoor terms means the past thousand years or so. With the Zenitar 16mm.

Nope, it's a sunset. No frost here so it's likely just some backlighting. Thank you for the nice comments.
