Originally posted by Dartmoor Dave I have to ask the really obvious things first, so please understand that these questions are NOT intended to insult your intelligence:
Is there actually a battery installed in the grip? (The grip hasn't got a built-in battery, it needs a D-Li150.)
Have you swapped the batteries between the body and the grip to see if you get the same result?
Have you tried it with no battery in the body, but a battery in the grip only?
Again, sorry if these seem like insultingly obvious questions. I just want to make sure you've tried those steps.
No insult taken...I should have stated all I tried. Grip and body have a charged battery. If I put either in the body they both work. If I put either in the grip with none in the body I get no power. When a battery is in both grip (with contacts facing up) and the body the battery setting works on auto, grip first or body first.

Actually there is a battery in the grip. So my grip is not communication with the body. If I put either battery in the body alone they work and show 100% charge. Either battery in the grip with none in the body doesn't work...though the grip does fire the shutter when batteries are in both.

Originally posted by Dartmoor Dave Thanks for the confirmation, Ray. My interpretation of the problem was also that there's no battery inserted into the grip as there should be. Either that or a battery is physically in there but it's not making proper contact and isn't being detected as present.
I did try cleaning the battery contacts and the grip battery contacts. I also lightly sanded the grip pins. I do have a fiberglass brush...to clean the body pin contacts...but I need to find it...lol. I saw the damn thing every day this weekend and the minute I needed it I can't find it. Does anyone know what pins on the grip are the power? This would rule out the grip and tell me the body pins socket needs cleaning.
