There is a feature on many Pentax cameras (it could be on all but I am not sure) that is, as far as I know, unique to Pentax. Have you noticed the little aperture blades icon to the right of the ON word on the OFF/ON switch?
Do you use it? Do you know what it does? Well, it gives you a preview of your image along with a histogram so you can see what your image will look like and you get an idea of whether your image is under or over exposed.
I wish you had not mentioned that feature Ray.
Use it sometimes with the K5II.
Just checked the K10d, it does not work!
Now I have a near perfect K10d for sale.
It comes with the rare KatzEye split focusing screen.
Only 6211 clicks.

Sorry folks. I use this test feature very seldom.
No reason for me to sell the excellent K10d.
BTW, the only thing the test position does is close the aperture of my K10d.

Corona-virus walk around at home . . .

Restricted about where photos are possible, but here are a few using the Pentax K-10 in manual focus mode with the VivitarSMS 28mm f 2.8 MC close focus lens.

In the menu somewhere, change the Preview from Optical to Digital.

The K10d also does digital preview. You have to set it in C Custom set menu. It is under Preview Method. The default setting is optical preview, that closes the aperture in the lens. My *ist DL also works that way. I think that all Pentax models that have this switch in the on-off wheel work that way.

If that is what it is doing, then I suspect that it is working. That is one of the two options.

Go to the 4th screen in Custom Settings and scroll down to Preview Method and if your setting is on 1 Optical Preview (the default) then set it to 2 Digital Preview.
PLease let us know if that fixes it. I am guessing that it will.

Hello! I found Pentax K10D

Hello! I have always wanted to do photography and found this amazing pentax K10D for free, my dad bought it for himself about 8 years ago and never really used it, since he has not touched this camera for years, I took it. Anyways, I wasnt really expecting good photos, because this camera is from 2006. I tried taking pictures and my expectations were true, pictures in camera screen were really bad, so I put my pictures on computer and to my suprise- they were actually good, atleast for camera from 2006, that I found basically for free. I have used this camera for scooter photography, my friend asked me to take pictures for his ad (he makes project scooters and sells them). Scooter photos turned out great. Now I have really learned the camera and know every little detail, since I now know it can take good shots and wont be waisting time on bad camera. I also tried making photos of stars, I dont know if anyone in this thread has done this, but I tought I should share some photos. Also, Im still not sure what that remote controll button with triangle shaped trees do, if anyone knows, let me know.

I love that photo of the trees and stars. That's a sort of photography I've never tried before, but it's definitely something I can have a go at from my driveway while I'm home under lockdown.

Welcome to the club.

Welcome!

As you'll find out by exploring this thread, a lot of us don't look at a camera's age to judge how capable it is. We just look at the results and it does give great results

Nicely done starscape, looking forward to seeing more

I should have known, a Pentax body simply can not fail

Thanks Swift1, dantonvb and Ray for correcting me.
The K10d is absolutely fine. Changed the setting in the menu and digital test is just fine.

Which brings me to state the K10d is by far the most underrated camera at the moment.
You can pick one up well under 100$.
Glad this forum put me on the trail of a clean K10d.

It isn't underrated here! But we'll just keep that a secret.
