Actually, Jones Beach is really a beach, and the airshow takes place over the Atlantic Ocean. This particular shot was taken with the aircraft flying at relatively low speed and at low altitude, so it was getting some sunlight reflected off the ocean surface. The normal marine haze was present which tends to scatter the sunlight and make the incident light more even.
