K5II Megatempation

Hey folks-

Am I the only one out there forcing myself to hold off that $599 deal on the K5II for a IIs or K3?

I have a K200D and a couple K-01s.

I know everyone has different photography needs, wants and priorities. Maybe I should just jump on the deal and work with any shortcomings in "post."

How is anyone else considering a similar dilemma?

The II deal was too much to bear for me, but it won't be the camera for everyone. I know that my imaging talents are not going to improve with a IIs or 3, and I see enough improvement over the K-5 classic for how I shoot (-3EV focusing, expanded-mode AF, f/2.8 precision on central point) that several items I'm not using much can go to fund this. The budget will groan and flex for a few months, but the K-3 would break it - and we cannot be certain of a IIs deal that might or might not be here soon. It's a tough call though - as always

Well, at less than half the price of the K-3 I would say the K-5 Ii is the way to go if you're upgrading from a K200D. The K-3 is great too, but it a much more complicated camera in many ways.

Unless you need 24mp I would go for the k-5II. You won't (in most cases) see any difference in image quality. The k-3 has some nice improvements and being able to do huge crops is one of them but the K-5II is an awesome camera and at that price is a steal.

There aren't any 'shortcomings'. In some ways the k-5II sensor is better than the k-3 sensor, so don't think you are giving up anything by 'settling' for the k-5II. Unless you need 24mp and no AA filter of course.

Thanks everyone so much, these are exactly the realistic and objective type answers I was hoping for. I think I'll order it when I get home tonight.

Happy holidays.

Adam, and thank you for this top notch site.

We've got some good deals in UK as well as some stores are copying the whole Black Friday thing. I have just picked up a K-5 II with DA 18-135 and a DA 50. Some great prices in the IIs as well but I decided to go for the II.
