The last time I tried to clean the viewfinder it got worse.

same here, I took extra precautions to minimize airborne dust and removed the screen successfully and cleaned it. upon reinstallation, it slipped from my forceps, hit the floor, and received a permanent scratch. dangit!

Having been fairly annoyed with this on my K10d, I decided to try not cleaning the sensor on my K-7 with a rocket blower.

I have only cleaned my K7 sensor with the official Pentax gummy wand. Result: I haven't had any dust in the viewfinder on this camera.
QED: dust must get inadvertently pushed into the viewfinder when cleaning with a blower.

I too believe the Giotto rocket blower is the culprit for the dust that gets transferred to above the focussing screen. I think folks are much better off using that Pentax gummy wand.

My Kr is going on four years of being well used, with regular Giottos rocket blower use. Not a single microscopic piece of dust anywhere in my baby.
But yet the K100d has caked on dust that the blower will not get rid of, but it was there before I came along.

I contend that the rocket blower is amazing, but if you have stubborn dust, a wipe or "q tip" would be the only choice.

I've had my K-5 for over two years now, and I can't see any dust in the viewfinder. There is a couple of spots on the sensor, though.

I have a K-5 and recently got a big spot on the viewfinder - I am thinking on trying the rocket blower, but a little scared to make it worse

I bought a used k-m a while back... when I got it had an insect leg on the viewfinder... still does...

I'm curious as to how many of you have some dust in the viewfinder area if you point your camera at a white wall.
I've had 4 Pentax cameras over the years (two k2000's, one k-x, and now a k-r), and 3/4th of them had some dust or small black plastic spec in the viewfinder or focussing screen.

This video shows how to clean the focussing screen, if you dare. I have not tried it.
