Bested in what regard? If the topic is DXoMark, Dave over at ImagingResource agreed with me on a recent post that DXoMark does not take into account the banding problem in its standard testing system. Not only is a sensor not a camera, but the basic sensor testing does not necessarily measure all aspects of a sensor's capabilities. Pretty much everyone over here breathed a sigh of relief when we learned that the K-3 has the (lower-scoring) Sony sensor rather than the unpleasant banding problem that comes with the Toshiba sensor on some Nikon bodies. We tend to put too much stock in testing numbers, and not enough into meeting our own imaging needs and perceptions.
Not that I am saying the K-3 is the greatest. Concerns over the JPEG processing, smoothing, dynamic range, apparent low ISO noise are certainly worth considering.
