K10D Firmware 1.10 works great

love having the wireless flash back...also love the ISO via control wheel in Av and Tv mode and the ability to change ISO via the OK button and control wheel.

update went flawlessly.

Enjoy the new features.

EF-500DG Super

and a FGZ-360

in case you didn't notice the 1.0 firmware didn't allow the on camera flash to act as a controller.

the K10D (like the ist D) now allows use of the on camera RTF to act as a controller for the wireless flash system. Now you don't need 3 $200 flashes to operate a the wireless as a two flash setup. You can use the on camera RTF to fire 2 wireless slaves.

here are the other updates:

Firmware Version 1.10 for K10D

The following function has been added in version 1.10

① Wireless control of external flash through built-in flash.

 How to set
・Press Fn button and four way controller key ( )
・Flash mode selecting screen display
・Select Wireless mode

・ Flash discharge method can select by [ Flash in Wireless Mode] in the custom menu
1 ON Built in flash works with master
discharge
2 OFF Built in flash works with controller
discharge

・ HS(High speed sync)in not available

・ Select SLAVE 1 in Wireless slave mode when use
AF540FGZ or AF360FGZ

How to use: Same as using two external flash, refer to the operating manual

② Instantly return to centre AF point by one push of button in AF select mode.

[Center of AF Point] is added to the AF function
In the custom menu
When AF point switching dial set to “SELECT”,
AF point is set to Center

③ Possible to change ISO setting by dial at TV/AV mode.

④ ISO setting change by dial while the ISO setting is being displayed on the LCD by pushing OK button.

・ ISO setting is being displayed in the view finder and on the LCD panel when setting the P/Tv
Av/M/B/X mode and then ISO can change by turning e-dial.
・ Possible to change to AF ISO by pressing green button in P/Tv/Av mode.

⑤ Green button function in M mode is available at TAv mode (Hyper manual).

・ Tv/Av value can set automatically when press green
button in TAv mode.
With this change, the name of [Green button in M] change
to [Green button in TAv & M] in the custom function

⑥ AV and TV switch by dial at P mode.

The item No.2 is added to the [e-dial in Program] in Custom menu.
With this change, Av can change by front dial and Tv can change by rear dial.

⑦ Instant return to the default value by green button at strobe light compensation.

Amount of flash compensation return to the initial value (0.0) by pressing green button when
display flash mode screen.

Your saying it is working? how are you getting it to work? I ask for others and for myself as hope to get K10 soon and have the Sigma 500 DG SUPER, Is your rechipped for use with K10? I know lot of question for someone without the camera. But, If I don;t ask other will I am sure.

I have only tested with the 360 thus far, my EF 500 didn't need to be rechipped as it was a serial # above the required.

i will test the 500 tonight or tomorrow and let you know if it works.

if not i am sure sigma will rechip it so i'm not worried. even if i had to pay $25 or so I'd be happy.

Hmm, thanks for asking. i just checked (couldn't wait). And yep, you are right. The flash fires as a slave but it doesn't expose properly. I think it's firing on the first P-TTL test flash.

so i will contact sigma and see if this is fixable. I'm sure it is.

Anyway, it works perfectly with the 360FGZ. So for now I still only have a 1 flash wireless system. while i like the size of the 360, the lack of swivel is a major issue, i'd have prefered the 360 didnt work. but since i paid about $75 for the 360 I'm not too upset.

Is this an officially released firmware?
if it is, do you have the link?

I spoke to pentax canada and they told me that it isn't released as of their knowledge.
they also told me that my warranty would be void if I installed the firmware prior to the release date....

thanks

Randy,

the firmware is not official yet, but has been leaked. According to this:

Official embargo date and time 01:00 GMT on 23rd Jan [n/t]: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

the actual release will be at 01:00 GMT tomorrow.

I have downloaded the leaked firmware out of curiosity, but have not installed it.

Hi Randy, There is a big thread (several of them as a matter of fact) over at DPR. Seems that it was leaked by a Pentax sombody over in Europe somewhere. I think that nobody has had problems with it. However the official release is due out tomorrow if I read everything correctly.

pentax canada hasn't updated their site since last fall.

thanks

Well DPR usually posts all the official firmware updates on it's home page. So I'd check there tomorrow. In addition I'm sure Pentax USA will also post the firmware ugprade, at least they have the K100D firmware upgrade up.

I went to the Pentax Imaging site about an hour ago and the formware update was there. While waiting for my battery to charge I looked again and it is gone. Interesting.

click the link if you cannot wait.

no problems with it and happy to have the functions for a few days in advance to play around.

everything is useful, especially the expanded ISO functions and custom settings.
