Sigma Lens

Hi all.

I have a Pentax K30 and I'm looking at getting a lens upgrade. I have seen a Sigma 18-70mm 2.8 DG EX lens.

Would this be a good buy or can anyone recommend something else?

I mainly take landscapes and now got into star and night photography using bulb settings etc.

Many thanks

Steve

There are quite a few good lenses in this range I have the Tamron 17-50 2.8 and it is very comparable in IQ to the DA* 16-50 2.8. It does however use the screwdrive so it is loud but, at least on my copy, it is very accurate with my K-30.

I have not seen the 18-70mm Sigma constant 2.8 only the 2.8-4.5 and that also has good reviews but it does slow down as you zoom of course.

For a good consumer zoom, the Sigma 17-70's are great. The Pentax 18-135 is slightly worse, but has more range and is Weather Resistant. In my opinion, the choice is all about whether or not you want to shoot in the rain.

I have the 2nd gen of the Sigma 17-70 and love it. I agree with i trax that you should get the 3rd gen or contemporary version.
