I still use my ist DS quite a bit. It still holds its own and the CCD sensor is underrated.

I recently bought the re-branded ist dl2, samsung gx 1l brand new for $120 lol I didn't really need another dslr but that price I couldn't resist. I'll probably just keep it as a back-up if something happen to my k3.

I still have a *ist DL and use it frequently when my wife uses the K20. Still a solid camera and the simple interface and settings make it a breeze to use... Still get some great shots from it!

In recent travels to southern part of Korea I took the Ricoh KR-5 35mm slr, the Pentax ist ds, the SMC Pentax -A 1:1.4 50mm and the Vivitar Close Focus Wide Angle 28mm 1:2.0

The ist ds and the -A had to endure being in the checked baggage, they got fairly cold at times but survived Ok.

The ist ds and 28mm were used in the day job, and on days off work I used the film slr mainly with the 28mm.
The -A lens is the only one in my collection of -M lenses so I just use its ap ring.

Some with the ist ds and the 50mm:

Still have mine

Yes I still have my original 1*stD and probably will keep it for ever. As has been said the colours are good, making large prints from it is perfectly possible and it's a nice compact but solid camera to use.

But let's not get carried away - It is only capable of matching current kit in favourable light conditions where you can use low ISO and fit everything withing the camera's DR range. When it is very contrasty or you are shooting at medium+ ISO levels it is way behind current generation sensors.

I just got a used k200d. It puts the ist to shame.

Makes me wonder about getting a modern camera.

The K200D is an excellent camera, but the *istD holds its own, imo. I give the D a slight edge in high iso performance, and it also has a much larger & brighter pentaprism viewfinder. Love it with the manual focus lenses, which meter perfectly, by the way. TTL flash is nice too

I still use my ist D and right now its the only camera I have. Thinking I will add a K50 later this fall maybe, depending on what or if Pentax comes out with something different/new in the fall but I'll continue to use my ist D because its just an easy camera to use and after all these years... still works. Can't say that about any 10 year old computer.
