What do you look for in a repair service?

Hey guys, hoping got right section to post in here.

Basicly wondering what i can look for in a repair centre, or local repairer, as any names or link here ive seen have been mainly for the USA.

Currenly in UK and seeing what my options are.
We have quite a few big brand camera stores here, but while some do repairs, kind of unsure as most of the staff are freshly trained alot of the time, and have not a great amount of expierece.
This is for a family members older DLSR, and dont want to take too much of a gamble.

Also their are many courier services for cameras, that take to more pristine service centres, rather than a back room in a shop. Saw sites like this DSLR repair site n this, which are completely different in terms of appearance and content. So just wondering what persuades you, or what does everyone look out for??

Thanks again

If the DSLR is sufficiently old, the cheapest repair often times is to buy another used here on the forum and pitch the broken one.

sufficiently old = 3-4 years,,,lol

with k5 selling used for around 450, depending on the repair needed, that "old" DSLR is obsolete in many way.

Yep... if your camera is 3-4 year old, you will end up cheaper just buying another used body.
Sometimes, if you are lucky enough, you can even get a new one when you get deals on group sales (or similar) - when they try to get rid of old stock.
