The Big Three SLRs - with Pentax

We all know Pentax - Ricoh have produced some highly competitive DSLRs over the past few years.

But its still a pleasant surprise and good news to see a Pentax DSLR camera right up there along-side Canon and Nikon on a 'front cover', targeted at a wider audience. So I thought it worthwhile posting a photo of the magazine cover I saw today in the check-out aisle of our local food supermarket.

Nice catch!
Any idea how much Pentax is actually covered inside the Mag?

Awesome indeed! Although, a bit odd that they decided to put the K-500 on the cover, which is the weakest of the current Pentax DSLR lineup. Of course, it shares the sensor with K-50, so it still produces good IQ

Probably they're targeting the entry level market, since all of the cameras are their makers' low-end models.

But which is the 4th one? Sony stopped making DSLR now so doesn't count, otherwise pentax will be 4th. Sigma? I am not surprised pentax is ahead of sigma dslr. Pentax is one of the big three, not because pentax is getting better (maybe is), but because fewer player in the game.

lol why would Sony be ahead of Pentax on the DSLR market? Sony left that market for a reason. And then it left the SLT market for a reason. Now its finding its niche with Nex and A7 cameras. Those cameras are rivals to Pentax (indeed Canikon), but they aren't DSLRs. Sony failed in the DSLR market and wanted something else, so they moved on
Pentax has always been among the big three in the SLR business, but its marketing was so bad nobody knew Some years ago people only talked about Canikon, even the Pentax flagships were hardly mentioned in magazines

The canon is the 600D. I don't know what the Nikon is but it's not a top model, either.

Three 'entry level' models, quite valid to compare them to each other...

Nice to see!
The message I get from the cover is that mastering the proper technique and knowledge are more important than equipment brand itself. What a concept!!

It's either the D3200 or the D5200.
