Originally posted by gwing I still have all my Pentax cameras but as a sad commentary on modern times I have:
Just two bodies (Mx and LX) which was all I needed in 30 years of film photography and
Four digital bodies already (1*stD, K7, K-01 and K30).
Is it the makers' notion of obsolescence or are we just trying to achieve some sort of image perfection? The real difference is that film had basically stagnated by the time digital emerged as a viable imaging process, whereas sensor development is nowhere near that point, yet. If it was just a matter of replacing the sensor with the ease that we used to replace film, we'd probably all be satisfied with the camera bodies we have. I imagine that's the scenario that Ricoh was looking to emulate with the GX-R, and maybe they'll do that with the imagined Pentax 35FF body, but the sensor isn't the only thing that's progressing in a technical sense, and I expect AF and AE to continue to change, not to mention external communications, viewfinders, GPS etc.
