The specs of K-30/50 and K-01 are rather close, but there are radical differences between these models. So as mee said, most likely you'll brick your Brick.[COLOR="Silver"]
The hardware is identical pretty much. The only difference is the K-01 doesn't have a mirror and a viewfinder

Honestly if I did have money to spare and an extra k-01 I'm pretty sure I'd test it.

I'm going to release this firmware to public, but only after a small period of testing to make sure the K-30 owners won't break their cameras.

If you are willing to participate in the testing, I can send you the link to the firmware.
Abel THX, iNSTALLED UPDATE went off without a hitch. Now this camera thinks it is a k-50.Is it possible to update the firmware to a later firmware or would I brick my camera? In the future of coarse.

So engaging the 2 s shutter delay (with mirror lock up) would brick your camera, then. :-p

You'll only be able to install the updates for K-30, but I'm sure Ricoh won't release new versions for it.
If a newer firmware for K-50 is available, the same modifications can be made to forcibly install it in K-30.

The most significant difference is the firmware files for K-30/50/500 are slightly larger than for K-01.

If you decide to give it a try, just let me know

You are welcome!
We are all waiting for the pictures from your "renewed" K-30

BTW, how should we call this camera/firmware mix? K-53, or K-35 perhaps?

Doing mirror up with the sensor cleaning option on the normal firmware would also brick it then

Got it

In fact, it's easy to change "K-50" strings to "K-30" as well as the model ID saved into EXIF info, so the camera will retain its name.

Firmware validation logic used in K-30/50/500 is added to PHDK Wiki here.
