Need a Pentax body

Hello all,

I am a former user of Pentax K-5. I switched to (actually, back to) Nikon to the D700. But due to some difficulties, I had to sell my FF equipment. I am now enjoying an Olympus E-M5 with Pan 14mm.

Recently I got my hands on a nearly mint Pentax A 50mm 1:1.2. Instantly grabbed it so that no one else can I have been using it on my E-M5 for some time and I have to say; it is an handsome piece of equipment and yields good results on the E-M5 even wide open. But since there is a 2x crop factor on my body, I thought I could use the lens with a larger sensor, in order to do it more justice.

Ideally I would like to use the 50 with an FF body, for that I should go film Pentax or a Sony A7. I know I can find a cheap Canon 5D Classic, but Canon bodies are a non-starter for me. Film might be plausible, but I am much more of a digital person. And I am not yet convinced of the A7 performance,

All that said, I might spare some funds for a Pentax or APS-C mirrorless body to utilize this glass a little better. I already have a mirrorless, so buying a Nex-something will only bring me more of the same and probably will cost more than a KxxD Pentax body. But if that will serve me better, I might look into those cameras too.

Otherwise, what cheap and good Pentax body would you recommend? The body should not cost much, since I will only be buying the body to use it with the 50 and will not invest any more to that ecosystem.

Used K-5's are obscenely cheap these days.

a k-01 with focus peaking (or maybe the k-5ii/s has that too?) would be nice for MF.

Thank you so far, I cannot justify the price of a K-5, even used and low-price for its market. The K-01 seems a better option, I know it is very low in second hand. Any chance I can shroud that design and colors with a body case or something? )

K-5 II nor K-5 IIs have focus peaking.

You can find a K-01 for less than $300 but it is mirrorless.

You can get a K-5 in the $400 - $450 range.

K-5 II/s will run you at least $100 - $200 more than the K-5.

K-7 in the $300 -$350 range.

K-30 or step down to a k-x/k-r. It' a big step down, though.

K-30 for focus peaking and built in compass would be what I'd do. Kind of an expensive piece of glass to waste on a k-x.

Well the black one is pretty normal looking, imo. I got my yellow one for $200, and I've seen a few black/white ones for around that price. On the other hand, that's the low price and the average I see on the market now is around $250.

If you do end up going the film route, IMHO you will not beat a Pentax LX, the bright view finder is just a joy with this lens.
