K100D frustration

well i don't know what to do with this camera anymore, don't get me wrong, it takes great pictures but ive had more then enough little issues with it, little things like being fussy with batteries and an intermittent focus issue, and now its shutter button refuses to work, using the cheap Chinese made cable remotes still possible but not convenient..the camera is still under a year old and hasn't been mistreated, is it time to try and get it replaced under warranty?

or is there something i can do myself to get this thing working properly again?

Hi,

The battery issue can be either the camera or the batteries, you cannot be sure without trying different sets of batteries I guess.
The focus issue can be difficult for the repair men to find if it is truely intermittend, you'd need to describe in detail how regenerate it.
The shutter button is clear: it is broken.

I'd send it in for warranty repair.

Its true the K100D is fussy with batteries.
I learnt the hard way that most common Rechargeable NimH batteries e.g Energizers, GP Batteries etc. self-discharge at a rate which renders them "flat" on the K100D after about a week, even if they have only been lightly used.

After I started using Eneloops, the problem basically went away. I easily get 300 - 400 shots per recharge on the Eneloops (without flash).

On the focus issue, is it inaccurate focus, or the camera refuses to focus even in bright light ?
The K100D does have a tendency to mis-focus when the battery level is low, especially in dim light.

by focus issues i meen that whats sharp and in focus in the viewfinder is soft and out of focus when the shot is viewed on the PC or even on the cameras LCD, even if the shots been taken from a tripod with a cable release, with shake reduction off of course...

the shutter button issue has resolved itself for the moment, and unless it does it again i dont know how to duplicate it for the service techs..

Have you checked your Diopter setting?
  1. Look through your viewfinder at a blank white object (my refrigerator works great) throw the lens out of focus.
  2. Adjust the diopter until the reference lines in the viewfinder are sharp.
  3. Now repeat your focus tests and see if this has helped.
If not, time to send it in for repair.
