Hello,

I am planning to buy a Vivitar Close Focusing Auto Zoom 75-205mm 1:3.8 Pentax K mount | f3.8 for my Pentax Kx camera. Is this lens can be used in Pentax Kx model camera.

Yes it will work but you have to enable aperture in the settings and you will have to use the green button for metering.

HI! It would be more sure if you could provide a link to the lens (if it you have one) - but after a fast search I've found this:

Vivitar Close Focusing Auto Zoom 75 205mm 1 3 8 Pentax K Mount F3 8 | eBay

If your's is the same, then you can mount it on your Pentax Kx, and if you make the necessary settings in the custom menu you will be able to use it but only in full manual mode (no autofocus, and just M mode with manual metering).

EDIT: when such a manual lens is mounted on the camera, you have to input the focal length for the SR (shake reduction) - but this being a zoom lens you can't have SR for the whole focal length...

If it is that exact one on eBay then there is a problem, it has an oversized aperture shield that hits the SDM/PZ contacts on newer bodies.

You can usually remove this shield with a few screws and either trim it down to normal size or leave it off.

EDIT:
Quick illustration of what I'm talking about, the excess shield that interferes is marked in red. While I have no experience with this exact lens, I believe the screws like the one I marked in blue will allow you to remove the shield.

I'm testing a vivitar series 1 70-210 f3.5 (the heavy one) on my k200d, thanks for the advice as I can't trim it (it's not yet mine). But if you mod the this part (metal on this lens), do you have to trim until it has the same height as the other side shield or will it fit if you remove only 2 or 3 mm ?
Ok, old thread but usefull to know
