Battery pack for K10D?

The cheapest I've found a genuine Pentax D-LI50 battery for is $45, and to me, that is still pretty steep for a "battery". How are 3rd party batteries, as long as they match the specs of course. Can I use regular AA batteries too if I want?

Depends...

I agree batteries are too expensive considering the charging time and the overall life of a battery. I have tried several third party batteries and of the 4 I have tried two leaked during the first charging, one did what I would consider explode. After charging for nearly an hour I heard a pop and there were some parts of the plastic housing 4 to 5 inches form the charger. The last of the 4 has been very good. In fact everybit as good as the Pentax brand one. The problem is none of the third party batteries has a brand name on them. All 4 of them I got from Amazon.com with a cost of $4.95 to $19.95.

I am now concerned that with a 3 in 4 chance to a bad third party battery that by using third party I am putting my rather expensive camera and myself in danger with them. I have decided that if I go third party it is going to be a name brand and that right now is Lenmar. If you do some searching you can find them at a fair price. I have had no trouble with their chargers or their batteries (I only have ones for my Panasonic FZ30) but they do have the ones for the Pentax I just haven't needed any batteries yet otherwise I would by Lenmar IF I can find them cheaper than the Pentax.

Amazon.com: NP400 NP-400 equivilant Konica Minolta 1500mAh Li-Ion Battery: Electronics I have 2 of these, plus the Pentax battery that came with the camera. These so far have been fine, and they are dirt cheap, I think on the first charge, I got close to 400 shots with the first one I bought. So for $9.00 I sure can't complain, I ended up buying another so I have plenty of backup power for any day trip I would make.

Ditto. I grabbed 2 of them from B&H (discontinued now) for $9 and they so far work great with no perceived difference in charge duration.

I bought one of these as a back up a year ago. So far it works fine and appears to last just as long as the original Pentax battery.

Exactly what I did...I bought two of these exact ones from the same source. Have never had a problem with either of them and they seem to last as long as the OE battery.

Ditto here.
The Konica-Minolta NP400 battery is both branded and cheap.
$9 is really great value.
I also grabbed one before B&H discontinued it.

Bing0---exactly what I did. got a couple of them --- so I have 3---one for the bag, one for the camera and one for the charger.--- I can't tell the amazon NP400's from the original and all works just fine.

Zilla,
I bought one from the ebay seller you listed above.
It came quickly from Utah, and works great so far.
He was easy to work with, and a decent price.
