Imaging Resource's light leak tests

Some of you might know the recent news regarding light leaks on SONY A7 camera body. For those who don't know, here is the link.
Note that their ``stress test'' is done at 30 seconds at ISO 25600, a bit insane, right?

Personally I really don't think this is a big deal, and I totally agree with IR that for most of
us, this is a non-issue. But it's still great to learn that Pentax's K-3 and K-5 are free of such
issues.

Amazing for us, Pentax owners!
Quote from the leak tests ... "The Pentax K-3 and K-5 were entirely lightfast."

Also surprising is the couple of "big guns" showing similar leaks but then again, we don't often shoot at ISO 25600 and 30 seconds, do we?

Light leaks like these are something that I've chased with my astrophotography setup. There are lots of flashing LEDs and accidental automobile lights that can ruin an exposure. Note that when you power the camera with an external battery pack or plug a shutter cable into the socket, an opening for light leaks can happen.

When I shoot my astrophotos, I use exposures that are 1200 seconds at 100 ISO, about 4 stops less than the example test. Once I gather data, I stretch it aggressively, easily reaching the test range.

I'm glad that this group is experimenting and showing how cameras perform in these extremes.

Yep, a bit insane unless the problem can also be demonstrated at more reasonable settings.

The article was not entirely clear on whether they covered the viewfinder eyepiece on the K-3 or not. Some experimentation is in order, but I'm not putting tape on my K-3.

I see light leaking in from the viewfinder when I use an IR72 filter on my K-7. That's 15 or 20 seconds at ISO 100 in full sun. I think they would have to cover all the viewfinders.

Thanks. That's what I expected. I was hoping I could just leave the O-ME53 magnifier on full time. It looks like I could tuck something in to the front of its rubber boot. Experimentation is still in order.
