I was in your boat, and I chose the K10. It was Pentax's top-of-the-line camera in its time.
I find that these types of decisions come up often. Think of it in terms of cars. I'll use Honda, because I'm familiar with their trim lines. Say you're buying an Accord. There's a DX, LX, and EX, in order of increasing features and price. Would you rather have a 2008 DX or a 2007 LX? (Ignoring the fact that the 2008 Accord is a new generation).
I almost always go for the older but better choice.
A few years ago, I spent $300 on a laser printer (not for photography, obviously). I could have bought a budget-line $300 printer, but instead, I bought a used enterprise-grade LaserJet 4000. I couldn't be happier with my choice (though I sometimes wish it were not so big).
