AF.C and BB focusing?

What the title says.

Is it not possible to have Continuous focusing when the back AF button is set as the only AF activator?

(Using the K-7 here)

Hi Steve. I use BB af and AF-C on my k-5 and k-3. I just rescued my k-7 from it relegation place in the cupboard, and sure enough it is set up the same way.

My understanding of BBAF is it only really makes sense if the camera is in AF- mode.

Have I misunderstood your question?

Well, continuous focusing [to keep track of moving object] happens with the shutter button half pressed, as AF on the shutter button is disabled when the back AF button is enabled, I'm not seeing a way that continuous focusing can work in this configuration?

Is it on the K-7? It isn't on the K20D or the K-5IIs. They are 2 separate settings.

Steve, it works by keeping your thumb on the AF button. Ever since I discovered the joys of the BB method, using the shutter trip as a focus button has become un-natural.

Yes it is if that's how you set it, which I have (Enable BB AF and disable shutter button half press).
I don't want refocusing on shutter button half press as well as back AF button.

@wizofoz
It just seemed wrong to keep my thumb on the back AF

I thought I may have missed something. All good.

I realize it can be set that way. The way I read your post I thought you were saying that setting the back button automatically disabled focusing with the shutter button.
