I guess I don't have enough primes yet to find it worth that much cash.
Using a TC is always a matter of compromize. Part of the interrest is that this is small & light and adapt to many lenses.

The price of this TC is the price is not that big. Many Pentax lenses are more expensive even in the common focal lens range.

This TC seems to be very good and to get very nice results..

That might not be justified to get the TC to transform a 50 into a 70 alone (even through a 70 is costing more than the TC here). but this would already be worth applyed to an FA77 and the gain is also obvious on a DFA 100 macro and any high quality lense with more than 100mm focal lens in fact.

The only question is the result is good enough or not in the end.

I don’t think that it was said that the TC wasn't supposed to work with the 18-135.

What I understood was:
  • it is not listed in the set of lenses that damage the TC (really important)
  • it is not listed in the TC compatible list. I conclude that it is not fast enough and the autofocus of some cameras won't work without flaws under usual conditions. Under the conditions I captured the photos using the K-5, the autofocus worked without problems.

Below you see two more pictures taken with fastest apertures at the extrem ends of the zoom range.

First: Pentax DA 18-135, DA TC1.4, 25.2mm@f/4.5
Second: Pentax DA 18-135, DA TC1.4, 189mm@f/8 -> very very slow wide open!

Nice shots here !
Where is that list for lens/TC compatibility, especially for those which could cause damage to the TC (or vice-versa) ?

Algonquin Park has very classy birds, complete with bird bling.

I remember that I read compatibility information in the announcement of the TC on Pentax Forum. Since PF changed it's appearance I can't find the lines anymore. But take a look at the compatibility list that's available from pentax now:

Thanks for posting that--I see that my FA*200 & F*600 aren't even on the list. I can take a hint: with my current line-up, this TC can't tempt me. What a relief! ;~)

Some guy who lives 100 miles from me asked if he could come try out his 600 and a few other very expensive lenses on the TC and I said "Yes, come on over, and don't worry, I won't hit you on the head and take your stuff." He's never got back to me. I guess he didn't appreciate my sense of humour.

Too bad but it was a good excuse to tune up the wood chipper.

Vivitar 2x tc ?

Last week I bought an old A3000 film eater off of a guy for $75....

It came with a 35-70 and a 70-210 Zoom lenses, along with a Vivitar 2X TC (on the right, with it's info leaflet).

If I hook that TC on to that lens (lying on it's side next to it), will I effectively have a 420mm telephoto lens?

How do you get those incredible macro shots with a telephoto lens?

I cant focus much closer than 2.5 ft. with my 35-70 - which I just screwed an old Pentax Close Up lens on to.
That helps a little but now I can't focus to infinity with that on there.

Also in the collection is an old M-42 (I think) screw mount TC that will not fit on every lens in the lot:

Is that still good for anything?
