I would think that Pentax would know by serial number which cameras are affected and would notify the owners. Either ask us to mail in the units or provide a firmware update.
did Pentax ever announce any recalls ? not their style I guess...

that link already ?

Yes, I saw that thread. I rarely shoot at an ISO setting higher than 400 so I can't offer any opinion as to lower noise with later revision numbers. Both of my bodies, including the one with revision number 1.2, handle 400 ISO with no noticeable noise. 800 ISO isn't bad either. But I haven't really tested this lately.

I sent my K10D for service due to a finicky AE-L switch. It left with model revision 1.2 and came back with model revision 8.2. When I have the time, I'll try to duplicate some photos I took during night time to see if the noise is indeed lower.

Are we sure about the data from Photo ME?

There doesn't seem to be a relationship between the Revision number and the Mfg date:
mine says 1.1 and 2007-04-17 like ukbluthooth but when you look at the data provided by Old Timer 56, you see a higher revision number with an earlier mfg date.
I would say something doesn't add up.

Has any one here in australia sent there k10d to CRK in melbourne for a problem and have it come back with 8.1 in it? I have 2.1 revision build date 2007-12-08 not that long ago?
I contacted CRK and at first they didn't know what I was talking about - they thought I meant firmware update

I directed them to the Exif data which showed the Model Version and that seemed to be the first time they had heard about it.

They responded that version upgrades were not available under warranty, and if I were having a focus issue to send in the camera and lens for calibration.

I then asked how the upgrade would affect the camera and how much it would cost. Just received a reply that they will check it with the factory and come back to me in a couple of days.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks, Rusty. I would appreciate that. My K10D has a manufacture date of 20070422 (purchased new in July 2007) and Model Rev. 1.1. It has been back to CRK once for a dust-on-sensor problem which they did not fix BTW.

I will be most interested to see what they say.

That is awesome and wack at the same time. The 8.1 revision needs to be a user supplied update like a firmware or something.
It is a change of some hardware components and software for this hardware, and can not be done with a firmware upgrade. Pentax updates their products continously in production, so the moral of this story is - buy a Pentax when it is about to be phased out of production. Then you will be sure to have the best and latest in it.
(it is just like buying cars, the cars are at their peak in performance and quality when they are at their last model year...).

I agree. I'm sure Pentax could explain all this but I doubt that will happen.

My K10 is rev 8.2 . I had sent it in to Pentax Canada in Sept to fix the flash.

I opened a RAW file from before I sent it in and it has a rev 1.2

Could the 8 in the 8.x rev just be a designator that the camera has been serviced at a service center? Has anyone received a 8.x rev from a retail outfit?

I sent my camera in for warranty repair (focusing issues as well as the random mirror-up in the middle of a shoot annoyance).

They stated they
Replaced "printed circuit boards and/or image sensor."
Adjusted and calibrated all circuits "for proper function."
Replaced or adjusted autofocus circuit "including focus motor and encoder, CCD focus device and laser alignment of all mirrors"

I just checked the info:

Pre-repair:
Manuf. Date - Dec 09 2006
Rev 1.1
Firmware 1.2

Post-repair:
Manuf Date - Mar 28 2008
Rev 8.1
Firmware 1.0 (reflashed to 1.3 as soon as I noticed)

I think 8.x comes when they replace the guts...

Question is - What does this mean? Will my camera have GPS and WiFi now? Will it know when it's Miller Time?

I sent mine in for BF issues, that Pentax said is not there.
I now need to send in my lenses for them to look at.

Not sure how many i will send, the DAF 50 F2.8 anyway.
