battery life

Hi, I am having a couple of very annoying problems with my *ist Ds digital camera. Hope somebody has some idea.
The camera is about three years old.
My old AA 2500 mAh batteries were starting to deplete quickly, and I purchased a new set of AA 2600 mAh. The batteries worked fine for a few weeks, but now they are depleted within a few minutes, even if I do not shoot any picture.
I tried putting the batteries in my wifeís point and shoot camera and they donít last more than a few shots. But if I put the batteries in a motor-driven equipment (I tried with the battery pack of a breast pump!,) they last for hours at maximum speed.
I am thinking about sending the camera back to Pentax to have a sensor cleaning and this problem looked into.
Thanks for your help.

My best guess is that you have a bad/dud/weak cell amongst your new batteries.
