Raw developer... Lovely but only available on Mac.
That's it. Free editing software is just not very good on mac, and if i am going to spend money on Photography related products, I would rather buy some lenses!
I am all about taking pictures, not so much about Digital Art and editing.

I currently do most of my post processing with Photoshot CS2.
Previously I used Photoshop Elements 3.0 or PSP XI.

I use Aperture 2 for everything. My entire workflow and filing system is in aperture. Simple minds seek simple systems!!

I use the Pentax photo laboratory software for my basic RAW conversions. If it needs more work then I take it into the GIMP for more heavy duty editing, sharpening. Occasionally I'll use UFRAW for the RAW conversion, then take it straight into GIMP.

Since I recently started shooting RAW I use Rawtherapee to adjust white balance, EV compensation, brightness&contrast. Then convert to JPEG and use Paint Shop Pro for the rest, usually tweak the histogram, crop & clone, unsharp mask, and noise reduction if needed.

Here is how I spend my time with the various packages:

- 65%: Lightroom for PP
- 15%: Lightroom for Organizing
- 5%: Picasa for on-line printing
- 5%: Picasa for web albums
- 5%: Photoshop CS3 for special editing
- 5%: Bibble Pro 4.9.5 & Noise Ninja for severe noise issues

Paint for quick resizing.
IrfanView for batch resizing.
Photoshop for more serious matters.

Aperture and Photoshop

But since Apple takes forever to release support for new cameras, I'm afraid I will need to work with something else as soon as I get my K20D's

DNG Converter (obvious) > Adobe Bridge (batch rename\move) > LightRoom (general tweaking) > PhotoShop (not often, USM and borders\copyright when exporting)

Although Im giving LightZone a try, as I want to migrate back to Linux but LR is keeping me from sticking with windows (dont want to run virtual machine too much hassle) but LZ has a linux version and if i like it will use that on Linux.

Thanks

Thanks for all of the replies everyone! It looks like there are a lot of choices out there. I will look at the survey too.

I installed a big hard drive a while back when the old one died, so I had room to download all the free and trial software I could find.

And what do I do? I go back to PaintShopPro 7 for the quick and dirty fixes, resizing and borders etc. I just like it, it's simple and quick.

If I want to do a better job of adjusting colours etc I use Elements6, very good.

I hated The Gimp and IrfanView, but maybe I didn't try hard enough?
