Vivitar 70-210 f/4.5

I have the opportunity to purchase this lens for $25. From what I hear, it will NOT work on my K10D. I found this thread that discusses modifying the lens to fit a K100.

Anyone know anything else about it? I'm stuck right now with kit+FA50, so anything even a little long, even if it's totally manual, would be a blessing for me.

Heck, I'll probably buy it anyway, just to have an old lens. Hell, it's $25!

Actually no, the post I linked to is NOT the same lens that I'm buying. The lens I'm looking at has an "A" setting on the aperture ring. otherwise, it looks identical.

There are small screws to remove the flange, and then you can trim it down to avoid the interference.

DO NOT trim the flange in situ, you can scratch the elements and / or fill the lens with filings.

once modified it will work just fine in manual metering mode.

You need to set the function "use apature ring" or simething similar if it is K mount.

If it is KA mount, except for auto focus, you can do every other function in the camera as long as the lens is in the A position.

Out of the A position you can only manually meter using the green button.

It's definitely a KA mount. Is the offending flange only present on the K mount?

Here's a pic:

It seems very much like my vivitar.. and it fits normally on my K10D.

That is a good deal on it. It is a good play-around lens... obviously it shows some purple fringes and it is not that sharp at full zoom... and another issue I've found out the other night while shooting the moon: the freakin zoom was retracting on me! I would set up everything right, place the camera inclined in the tripod and use the timer... after 4 tries I realized the problem: the lens barrel was retracting on me! I started laughing!

I finally (!) got this lens today. I haven't had a chance to Dremel the offending flange down, but if I take it completely off, it seems to work fine. What happens if I just leave it off?
