K200D vs *ist DS at ISO800

K200D DS ISO800 - - - iXBT
it's not test, but comparision. jpeg from PEF.
noise reduction in Silky Pix - all to ZERO.
f2.8, ISO800, 1/100, autoWB, the same point of shoot.
I don't see that DS is better in noise.
* remark - DS has FF with 35 lim.

I made shot only to understand the noise at ISO800.

I held a K200D and I was impressed by it's ergonomics. I like it even better than my DS. The only downside compared to K100D Super is supposedly worse noise performance. I'm very intrigued by this camera, but since I already have K100D Super I'll wait for peices to drop or K300D to come out.
Thanx a lot for pushing my wallet even further in danger

I'd say keep the K100D Super. Sure there are some newer and niftier features on the K200D but if you're not opting to produce larger prints, don't need the slight improvements in feature set, weathersealing and you're shooting mostly jpegs, the K100D Super image quality can give the K200D a run for the money. I'm definitely keeping my K100D Super as it is slightly smaller and lighter than the K200D, which make it easier for my kid to use.

Hi. Interesting comparison. I have read that K200D has four different settings for noise reduction. The lowest setting is no reduction, then weak, and so forth... Can you tell us which setting it was on when you made the comparison? Thanks.

noise reduction works only at high ISO in K200D, if we switch on.
i'm not sure that it works at ISO800. my setting is WEAKEST.
next WEAK and STRONG.

Comparing shots I took with my Super and K200D at Pentax presentation I decided Super has better ISO performance after all. My wallet has relieved.

Technical data:
K100D Super + Sigma 18-50/2.8 DC EX
K200D + DA 18-55/3.5-5.6

18mm f=4 t=1/15 Lightroom (black=0, noise reduction=0/0)

K100D Super K200D
P.S.
The difference is more obvious with dark background.

I don't see serious difference. The resolution with K200D is MORE better from ISO400. ISO1600 is much better, but a bit noisier.
See RAW with DA35 at ISO1600 -

That file was tough to open. I managed to open it in Pentax photo browser. I saved it as jpg and then cleaned it up in Neat Image. Looks pretty good.
