So I throw in a bid thinking the chances of me winning it for that much was a little low but secretly hoping it was high enough and I won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now i'm so broke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It will be a few days until I get it but I have a question now that needs asking :P. I have a k10d and a k100d already. If i'm going to be doing weddings which one should I keep? The logical choice is the k10d but then the k100d does have better low light. The second camera will be both a backup / second cameraman camera.

I know strange question but i recently took both to a car show and for the first time I found it easier to get good shots with my k100d than my k10d because of the lighting.

When I purchased my 20, like you, I also had a 10 and 100 (non super). I sold the 10, only because a fellow Pentaxian here at work offered to buy it for a decent price. Given my druthers, I should have kept the 10 and sold the 100.

Best advantage of retaining the 100 is that the IR capabilities are much better than the 10 or 20.

Thanks for the replies guys.

It wasn't an AMAZING deal but after looking at the lowest prices around the web nowadays (1150-1200) The fact I got it for 970 shipped priority mail with some filters and monopod for it i'm pretty happy The guy has only recently got it and decided it was too much camera for him. Very nice guy from Ga )

Luckily I have only a GF that is out of the country at the moment :P

Why is the k100 better for IR?

There is another one on ebay right now at 910.00
Pentax K20D 14.6 Megapixel - eBay (item 120253190819 end time Apr-30-08 13:44:29 PDT)

I blame it all on this forum!!! I am usually a super frugal guy that doesn't spend money on anything but it's just so fun taking pictures . I explain it as... I am HORRIBLE at drawing.. painting etc.... I have great ideas of what i want but i can't translate it through the pen or brush. But with Photography... it is my painting. (don't take this as i'm any good at shooting at all.. it just has the same meaning for me )

Wow. That's very good deal.

I can't believe somebody would pay over $1000 for a camera and then decide that it is "too much" for him/her. I guess the seller never heard of this forum where he/she would get very good advice before spending $1000+.

Well, in the film days when I bought one camera or lens too much, the big problem was that I could not afford film for a while! At least you wont have that problem. Congratulations!

The filter over the sensor on the K100 series (including the K110D and K100D Super) passes more infrared light to the sensor than the ones on the K10D, K20D, and, IIRC, the K200D. You still have to use an appropriate deep red IR filter over the lens to get an IR image, but the K100D series records more IR information to work with in post processing than the other recent Pentax digital models.

Consider that the K10 and K20 is more similar than the 20 and 100, regarding operation. It is often viewed as an advantage to not have to think different between bodies.

(A cheap IR filter is made by holding the inside 'disk' of a floppy in front of the lens. Not perfect, but veeery cheap.)

I'll answer this one. Keep the K10D, sell the K100D.

The claim that the K100D is better than low light is, in my opinion, greatly exaggerated. I've taken thousands of pictures with my K10D and also with an *ist DS (and when I had it, with a K100D). The advantages of the K10D far outweigh any slight advantage the older camera has in low light. One of those advantages is that the K10D operates exactly the same way that the K20D operates, which is really valuable.

I think you just need to get to know the K10D better. ;-)

Congrats on winning your bid on the K20D. You'll like it.
