Anamorphic lens

Hi guys,

got my hands on a kowa 2x howell and bell anamorphic lens. Anyone used it? It resulted in the image attached here :

So I have a question for those who've used it. How do i stretch it in photoshop? Common sense just multiplies the width by 200%. However, i tested an image of a circle on a screen, and stretching by 166.5% creates a full circle, and going beyond that makes an ellipse. The image linked is 166.5% by the way.

I am using a 50mm lens as the host lens, on a k5. Any suggestions?

you either multiply the width or divide the height, your choice, same result.

i do quite a bit of anamorphic for the cinematic look

Hi Brucker, thanks for the response!

My problem is because i am not sure what i should multiply the width by. I thought it should be 200%, since its a 2x anamorphic lens. However, when testing by shooting a perfect circle, multiplying by 200% gave me an ellipse instead. I am not sure why?

the unsquish factor changes with certain lenses,... so x2 is at infinity, and as you focus closer it gets to about 1.75 which is why you're getting 166%. the number doesnt matter much as long as the image doesnt look stretched.

with kowa's i normally unsquish just short of x2.

Thanks

That explains why my gf looks fat close up when i multiplied by 2x , while my car looks short at infinity when I only multiplied by 1.66, lol >_<

Now I just have to figure out which is where
