So I'm Getting a Pentax K200D!

I'm so excited, pending the sale of my Fuji S9100 I will buy a Pentax K200D, I have a few questions.

1. Where can I buy the K200D kit with the 18-55mm mk2?

2. What SD memory card would you recommend? I want something fast.

3. How many shot's could I expected from Sanyo Eneloop batteries?

Thanks!

Please Dont Reccomend Abes Of Maine

They call you after you place your order and try to sell you the kitchen sink, look up abes of maine complaints and then run for the hills, I wish I would have, if the price sounds too good to be true, just be smart and know that it is.

B&h is selling the camera with the lens kit for 695, if you go to abes of maines site they lie and say B&H is selling it for 800, anyone want to alert B&H of the lies abes is spreading?

Hi momtographer

Re your quandary:

No doubt B&H and similar stores are only too aware of the kind of sharp practice that these shysters & rip-off merchants indulge in, but there's no harm in gently reminding B&H, now is there ?

Best regards
Richard

Strange that I had the exact opposite experience with Abe's Of Maine. I bought through Amazon Marketplace and did not hear anything from them except for a confirmation of my order and a shipping date. Ordered my K100DS on Monday and it arrived Wednesday. I'm guessing the trick is to order through Amazon Marketplace and you will not have any hasseles

SD card? I can recommend SanDisk either Ultra IIs or Extreme IIIs.
I have a couple of Extreme III thanks to a fellow forum member, and their performance is great: faster than the K10D can write, and downloaded with their SD card reader at over 20Mb/sec.

Not sure what the write speed is for the K200D, but if it's less than 10Mb/sec, getting the Extreme IIIs may be overkill. But getting one ensures you're maximising speed both in capturing and downloading...

Amazon, B&H Photo, and Abes of Maine list the Pentax K200D kit as item # 19554, but, they don't list the 18-55mm lens as mark II.

Let me know what rechargeables you're get and how it's works. I can tell you do not get the Energizers 2500, when i pop them in my camera they show no power and naturally do not work at all

memory cards i'm using A-Data 4gb SDHC class6

So you guys are not sure of which places ship the K200D kit with the 18-55 mk2?

On another forum I heard that if you order directly from Amazon (not through other sellers) that they ship the kit with the 18-55 mk2. However, I would really like for this to be confirmed.

I suppose that I will go ahead and grab a Sandisk Extreme III 4gb SD card for maximum write speed.

I will also purchase 4 Eneloop batteries and a charger along with the K200D as well as a Hoya 52mm Multi-Coated UV filter to protect the kit lens.

Thanks for the input so far guys.

I think I will avoid Abe's of Maine though.

19554 is the number on my K200D kit box - it is a Pentax part number, and it contained the Mk2 lens. I bought mine at Ritz online (at the time they offered a 10% discount for using Paypal). I've had good luck with BHPhotoVideo and Amazon (except their packing sucks!). I'd stay away from any of the ones that call you back and lie to you - how can you trust them for anything, like returns if you have problems, or even just sending you what you order! Good luck. I love my K200D.

Alright thanks, then I guess that I will order from Amazon.

I'm about to sell my Fuji to someone and once I get the funds I will buy a K200D from Amazon.

P.S. Is there anything I can do if I receive the 18-55 mk1 lens instead of the mk2.

Nice to see fuji folk show up here. This is by far the best place to hang out with your new camera.
I know that you can call most of the better places like B&H - Beach - Buydig - Adorama and talk to them directly about which lens they are shipping.

For my 2 cents... With the K200d I am not sure I would spend a whole lot more to get the MK2 lens. I think with the K20 and its 14mp chip it would be be worth it. But I am not sure it is worth an extra 200 dollars on the 10mp sensor of the K200... Just my opinion. But it is based on the fact that once you get hooked, and start buying better lenses, your kit lens will probably end up where mine is... on a shelf only used in good light for 20-28mm shots.

Now I am talking a bit out of my _ss here since I only have the K100d and original kit, but it is a pretty good kit lens IMHO and I would save that extra money for your first fast prime.

Does that help or hurt?
