Don't worry. It was a nice hypothesis. I think the conclusion is that it is more complex and divergent than you proposed, that there are so many individual reasons. But what you suggest is probably true for a group of Pentax owners. For sure, Pentax is today an underdog, and doesn't we all sometimes like to see the underdog win?

It's all about being a non-conforming conforming non-conformist...

Use what works for you, and if it doesn't, figure out how to make it work. After all, the camera doesn't make the photographer (regardless of what Canonikonians believe) .

If neither the White Album, Rubber Soul or Revolver doesn't move you, you're not a sane person! And don't tell me you like Kenny G

As for Pentax, It's not just the price. Their cameras offer more than the competition, and that would hold up even if there was no price difference - it's a bonus.

I happened upon pentax by chance, I was researching dslr's and the site I was looking at the most said pentax was the best out there for photographers, I had no idea how "unpopular" they were at the time. Lately I've been tempted to go Nikon, I feel so stinkin left out in all my photog groups its always canon or nikon, and its just an assumed thing that if you have a pentax, you must not have been able to afford to play with the big dogs. There was even a guy in one of my groups that said when he switched from pentax to canon he felt like he was finally working with a "real" dslr, is it just me or is that a total crock? I've felt canons they feel like toys, I guess it is conformity, even though I know I'm getting more features with my k10 I still fell like I'd be upgrading if I got a d80, isn't that retarded and hypocritical. We also have a Honda

A wise person knows when to fight and when to run.
A wise person knows when to conform and when not to conform.
A wise person buys a Pentax because he does the research.
A foolish man buys a CaNikon because the salesman showed it to him.

Thousands of us are now blindly chanting in unison:

We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals! We're all individuals!

And the sound of the crowd was like a raging torrent that could not be contained.
They made a fearful din...
and the people were afraid.

Exactly the point the TV series The Prisoner made over a handful of brilliant episodes. I cannot remember if there was a Pentax camera in the show, but chances are.
