How did the best thread on the forum start?.

Check this out, page one of the 300 plus club.....
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/122-lens-clubs/55946-300mm-plus-lens-club...ng-lenses.html

At this point the 300 plus club, is 856 pages has 3482 likes and is easily home of some of the best photography posted on the forum...

yet it took a little tweaking to get it right.... and it had a real slow start... but look what it grew into..

You just can't tell.. the release of the DA*300 ƒ4, Sigma 500 4.5 and people acquiring a pile of legacy lenses have made this thread the home of newly taken show stoppers on any given day.

At least you can explain this thread's success, you have to have some of the most expensive glass out there just to get in the door....

On the other hand there's simply no explaining this thread.... 1146 likes 614 pages... possibly the second most liked thread ever,,,
You read the first page of this thread and the only thought that comes to mind is, why didn't this thread die?
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/172-pentax-k-3/239325-why-i-wont-buy-k3.html

Or to quote JinDesu at the bottom of page one...
"This thread is depressing."

I agree, it's all his fault, but he didn't even get involved until page 5.... He can't be blamed for it making it to page 4.

BTW, the Takumar Club has almost as many pages, but not nearly as many Likes.

I should just keep my mouth shut here... but hey, when have I ever done that?
It sounds like quantity but not quality....

(Running for the door ducking the multitude of old broken Tak lenses being tossed my way, at very high velocities.)

(Those old Tak lenses really hurt if you get hit with one.)

thanks for the heads up. I don't know if I've ever visited the 300+ thread...probably because I never had any long lenses. I will check it out!

Nah, it's just that the Takumar people aren't as easily impressed. You don't earn likes simply because you can count a sparrow's nostril hairs at 500 paces.

No instead you count somebody's girlfriends nostril hairs at 3.5 feet.

Keep going Norm, I wanna see how much mileage I can get out of one simple, harmless question...

No you don't, I'm hoping to post up some good pics there once I get dialed in with my new $15.00 Sigma 70-300mm.

It may appear to some that I have played a small part in perpetuating it, but I admit to nothing.

Just to add a little perspective; the 856 page lens club thread has been running for just over 5 years. The 614 page K-3 thread is less than 9 months old.

I have some SIgma 70-300 images on there, as long as you're close to your subject in the long end, it's a good lens. But then I paid $279 for it almost 10 years ago. And it's broken now.

If the K-3 thread is still going 5 years from now.... I shudder and bring vomit up into my mouth just considering the possibility... but it's alright... I'm OK now. What were we talking about?

you're code to your subject in the long end,
Is there a typo in this norm, or do I need a translation of "code to your subject" (serious question)
