K100D Users: What's your next move?

I've had my K100D since January and find myself contemplating an upgrade. If you're in the same boat, what are your plans?

Add a 2nd K100D body? Get a "hand-me-down" K10D from someone upgrading ot the K20D? Buy a new body and sell off the K100D?

Part of me thinks upgrading to a pre-owned K10D would be a good move, while part of me says "Go for it!" and get the K20D instead. There's also the K200D, which seems like a nice compromise...

I think they will have to come up with a much better camera for me to give up my K100d. I think it takes just as good of pictures as the K10. Most picture taking is the shooter and the lenses. and I have niether....so I'll keep my K100d........lol

I just got my K100D Super last month. Until I feel that I have outgrown this camera or I reach a barrier where I cannot learn anymore until I replace the body I will keep and enjoy my K100D.

I'd love to have a new K20. But it's not in the cards for the time being, so I'll probably use the k100d for at least another year before considering an upgrade. After all it does what I want it to. It takes pictures.

Though I have to admit, having two e-dials is appealing. And Raw+Jpeg would be convenient as well.

What are your reasons for wanting to upgrade? The only reason to go to the K200D would be for the extra MP's. Unless you are cropping a lot or printing larger than 8 X 10 they aren't going to do anything for you. The K10D gives you 2 control wheels, more MP's, and a bigger buffer. Are the 2 wheels and bigger buffer important to you?

The K20D has some nice features but at what price? Do you want a second body? You have, IMO, one of the best bodies on the market. If this is a hobby for you like it is for me and you want to spend some money why not buy some better glass instead of a new body. Some old top quality glass will not only give you great pleasure but set you up for a jump all the way to FF if it comes along.

Just my 2 cents.

Next?

I am thinking about upgrading to a K200D or K10D, primarily for the weather sealing and larger buffer. Each body has its own positive features compared to the K100D, but I haven't really made up my mind.

In reality, I'll be perfectly happy with the K100D until I learn more about photography and composition. If my hobby outgrows the camera's capacity, then it will be time to invest in a second body.

I have been there before. But at the end I went for the second K100D body. Though back then K10D was still bit more costly...
These days, if I could, I would buy new K10D. You still can get them for very decent prices. As for myself, I will probably wait for a year or so until K20D won't be made "obsolete" by K30D (or whatever the name of the new model will be) and then if I will have enough money I will get one of them... but who knows, maybe tomorrow I will win lottery and ...
... sweet dreams....

If only K100D had second dial I would have agreed for 100%. Now I agree "only" for 95%.
But generaly I agree with your approach and for last 18 months that's the way I've been trying to go...

Good question.

For right now, I haven't the money to do anything (used K10, new K20 or K200, second body...) so I enjoy what I have.

Future? Well, if I come into enough money, I'd probably go straight to the K20. I'd probably be better off spending money on good glass, but what I have is good enough for me for now, and LBA is forever. If I did upgrade, I'd likely give the K100 to my sister in law, who's looking to get into digital.

I love my K100D
so far it has far exceeded what I thought a 6.1 mp camera could do
I'm getting a new smc 50-200mm lens today
so I've got a whole new lens to get used to
color me happy

I reckon I'll keep using this until I finally break it and have to buy a new one. I'm actually very surprised it keeps ticking given all the abuse I put it through out there. That said, if I had a lot of money burning holes in my pocket, and wanted to upgrade, I think I'd go with the K20 this time, it's got some awesome features, to say the least.

Don't get me wrong.....I really like the body a lot. There are some things that I wish it had (more megapixels, RAW+JPEG, weather seals). The 2 e-dials is not that big of a deal to me. It would be nice to have, but not a necessity. I can get around the K100D just fine with the one dial and menus.

As far as lenses go, the only things I see myself adding are the DA55-300 (replacing the Tamron) and a super wide zoom (DA10-17mm).

As for the original question, if I had the $$$ for a K20D, I'd have grabbed it already. In the mean time, I'm good with the K100D....but always looking at ways to improve my kit. I know these digital bodies last a long time, but they don't last forever....

I swopped my K100D for a K100D Super. I figured the future will be SDM and I wanted Dust Reduction as well. Anyway it is still smaller and lighter than the K200D.
