Thanks. I am going out today to see if it actually works.

**I went outside to take some shots and the AF adjustment seems to work....but I think I need to fine tune it. I can still get the camera to take a shot even though what I am focusing on is clearly not in focus when looking through the viewfinder. Frustrating for sure.

I'm thinking of downloading the debug mode firmware to adjust my AF, but before I do I need to know if the hacked version will run my SDM only DA 17-70 as firmware prior to 1.3 won't do SDM focusing. Anyone know? Thanks.

Wait, nevermind my last question. This debug mode software is not a hacked firmware, correct? It's just a way into the camera's debug mode. I missed that earlier.

Correct builttospill. You just go on and adjust the settings.

Strangely, the english version of the debug mode program seems to have stopped working. I installed a newly downloaded version on a new laptop and the shortcut reports it can't find the program. Next I went back to the computer I had previously installed it on and saw the same error (it worked a few weeks ago). Finally, I installed the russian-language version and it worked flawlessly. It seems the person that translated it to English was having a little fun and made it delete itself on 11/01 or something, assuming this isn't some anomaly around me. Has it disappeared on anybody else?

Just a quick thank you to everyone who posted in this thread. After reading this a number times I finally decided to download Yvon Bourque`s test chart and found that all the lenses I use had back focus problems to some extent, so I upgraded firmware from v.1 to v.1.10 and followed the instructions you kind people provided.
The results are as some one else said earlier quite startling especially my 16-45 which I had thought was just a reasonable lens. After some test shots in the back yard of various flowers and Bees I am beginning to see why so many people on this forum rave about this lens - the difference in sharpness is unbelievable.
Thank you so much................Simmo.

I must be doing something wrong, because when I downloaded the Russian debug program, it restarts my computer whenever I I try to go into debug mode.

People running vista have had problems with it.

If you have access to a computer with XP, try that, because it was the only way that I could get it to work (have an ancient computer in my basement that I just use for word processing).

Instead of using the program, you could try this alternative way of enabling the debug mode.

Seems like most K10ds develop some degree of BF as it ages.... Mine was bought used and came with -50 BF on the debug mode.

Thank God for the Russians!

Help an ignoramus please

I need some guidance on the de-bug file...I think I know what to do but am afraid to screw things up.

As I understand:
1. Take a freshly formatted SD card
2. Create a folder named MODSET.TXT (I have K10 w/1.30)
3.Type the command [DEBUG_MODE EN] using notepad and save to MODSET.TXT folder on card.

4.Put card in camera
5.Turn camera on with MENU button pressed (or same with DELETE button).

This should allow me to selct De-bug menu in camera and to make AF adjustments and the de-bug menu will stay enabled without the card in the camera.

To disable follow the same procedure with the disable command in the file on the card.

Thanks for any help here.

Perhaps this is what you mean anyway but:
1. Open notepad
2. type "[DEBUG_MODE EN]"
3. Save file as "MODSDET.TXT" on your memory card (not in a folder)
4. Turn camera on with card in camera and menu button held down.

Thank you very much. I would have made a folder not named the file....

neither the debug program nor the modset.txt on an SD card is getting me into my K10D with 1.3. Any ideas?
