I have also bought the cheapo Chinese split screen ($30 inc shipping). Using the screen together with the Pentax magnifying eye-piece, I have got 99% spot on when I do MF.

Search for member "jinfinance" in the eBay Community page, if you want to see from whom I bought mine. I also bought from him the tool kit for changing the split screen.

Good luck!
This is one thing I miss from my old Canon AE-1p... split screen focusing.

So did you have any issues with this screen? Did you need to use the included shim?

Surprisingly the cheapo split screen works the magic without much adjustment. I do not need the shim that came with it.

The screen has the small tab at the bottom edge near the right corner. (The auction page did not show the screen has a tab though!!). Just replace the stock k10D screen with this cheapo screen seating it in the metallic frame inside the k10d ensuring the same orientation as that of the stock screen.

That is all to it.

Here is the pictorial installation guide. But note that this guide is not prepared by jinfinance and therefore the screen shown is not the Chinese screen. But the installation procedure is exactly the same. I have found it useful.

I use center-weighted metering. Depending on the lens, manual exposure adjustment of +0.3EV to +1.0EV may be needed.
