K20D and 85mm soft

New to DSLR, has just bought a K20D, and quite pleased. However, I have difficulties trying to use my 85mm soft of which i am quite fond.
Help would be greatly appreciated!

The lens is a Pentax F soft focus lens. The focus is softer the larger the aperture. So you have to do the aperture manually. The camera simply doesnt work when i try to do this.

There's a custom function to allow the use of manual-aperture lenses. Not sure why this is disabled by default.

Yes , this is true (I agree it should be "allowed" by default)

I have the K10, but I think the functionality should be the same. I have the "K" 85 soft, and as this lens operates only in "stop-down" mode I can use Av or Manual exposure mode.

I understand from Boj's page the F 85mm soft has a partial stop down /partial auto diaphram. This suggests you can use it in Av and Manual mode from 2.8-5.6and only in Manual mode from 5.6-22.

You will have to experiment and let us know.
