I used the (digital) K-X for years before getting my K3. It's an awesome camera! My concert photographer colleagues used to make fun of me because they had 1Dx, D3s, D700 and then there was me with my little K-X and K200D with my Sigma 24-60mm F2.8, DA* 16-50mm, and DA* 50-135mm.

As said earlier, look at the Tamron 17-50mm or the Tamron 28-75mm. Some shoots are at the soundboard and you'll need a long lens for that. Use spot or center metering and spot focus so the camera isn't fooled by flashing lights.

I used live view on this one to shoot over the crowd in very low light
