New or Used K-5IIs

Is it worth buying a used cam with no Warranty?
Thinking it might be more cost efficient to just spring for the new cam with an extended warranty tagged along. Save me from surprises or push my luck and hope for no whammies in the future with a used cam.
Thoughts?
Thanks forum community

Considering how cheap ($20) the extended warranty is, I would recommend buying new.

I have bought most of my lenses used. Cameras about half & half. It is more about what you feel comfortable with. Also, be very careful on used prices as sometimes the new 'on sale' is cheaper than some asking prices on used. A used camera with low shutter count I would be fine with, but a high shutter count I would likely hesitate as service will be needed at some point and needs to be factored into the price.

If you feel you want some warranty try KEH and see what they have in stock used. I think they give a 6 month warranty.

I would definitely buy new.... With prices this low it's a no brainer....

Pentax K-5 IIs Digital SLR Camera Body 12050

Even if you don't want the grip, you can easily sell that off on here, eBay or Amazon for $120-160.

Thanks everyone - new just seems like the right call with out knowing the shutter count. I appreciate the feed back.

For my main camera, I will buy new, with extended warranty. For a second camera and lens, I would buy used, checking out the seller's record first. I just bought a used 55-300 DA here, and feel I got an excellent deal!

I have probably been lucky but I have not had problems with lightly used cameras and lenses from established forum members. Even from ebay I have received reliable equipment although that is riskier.

I bought my first DSLR used (a K-x) but with the newness of the K-5IIs I would say go for new. I have been looking at the prices of this camera new vs. used and I don't see enough savings to make it worth buying used.

First post here so take this with a pinch of NaCl. Having just purchase a used k-5iis from the forum here (thanks Lukinosity!) , I would advocate buying used and spending the money saved on the next tier of glass that the money saved would afford. That said, the k-5iis is an amazing instrument and a fine bargain new or used.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I took the plunge and invested in a K3 with high hopes I can keep up with this amazing machine. Although, I did purchase a lens from a forum member and it works perfectly. Looking forward to "on the field" research now!

With the K5IIs being discontinued, your window of opportunity for new will be pretty short. Adoroma has new for $497. KEH has used LN- for $479. So for $20 difference you might as well buy new, and another $20 for the warranty and you are set. After the cheap inventory clearance units are cleared out from the large retailers, the smaller ones raise their price back up. It always happens, so in a couple of months if you want new it will be back up to $650 or so.

I've been kicking around the idea of replacing my K30. I convinced myself that there will always be a discount used market. Discount new markets don't last forever.
