What to sell K5 K20d K10d

I have a conundrum. Too many camera bodies and the need to sell some.

I have decided to sell three bodies, two being a K100d and K7 with the other???? I am keeping a K30 and my two very trusty (and inexpensive) K01's because these cameras seem to really perform well in f2.8 AF (K30), macro (both with focus peaking), sharpness and street photography (K01).

I kind of want to keep the K10d as it is reputed to have better colours and I have two other non-functioning bodies for spares. But on a performance basis (MPs and other improvements in K20d and K5), is this a good enough reason to keep it?

If I kept the K10d then it comes down to the K20d or K5 .....

Anyway, I am confused and feel indecisive.

Please help

Why not find a scene you like, take an identical pic with the K10D, K20D and K-5 and see which you like best?

Im in the same boat ...

I love the K10 for some strange reason , but the K20D kicks it to the curb performance wise ... as does the K5

ATM there seems to be demand for the K10 , not sure how long that will last ..

When people find out that the K20D is much better and sells often for less , but who knows , the K10D was the first really good Digital made by Pentax , maybe its destined to be a collectors classic ?
If only we could send it to Ricoh for a 24MP upgrade

Isn't K20D still worth more in the marketplace? When I was in your position I decided to sell off the K20D and K-x, kept the K10D because my K10 has around 50k shutter, the resale value is ridiculously low. (My K20 had around 15k and K-x had around 20k). I also like the results from ISO100 K10D, I dont think even the newest sensors are capable of the same color rendering.

If the resale value of my K10D had been equal to my K20D, I might have kept the K20D instead though, it's a more versatile body.

Talking about old items getting upgrades, I still dream of the day I can tell Nokia to produce an updated version of Nokia 3310 for my personal use

Millage cant be helped !

Say you had a 5k , K10 and K20 ... The going rate is either equal or favours the K10 ...
Only a month or so ago a low millage K20 was $250 to $350 , and the K10 was the same ..
Even the K5 can be had from $300 but they are high millage cameras ..

So if you have a low millage camera ( Under 5000 Shutter actuations ) and its a K10 , its worth the same or more than a K20 ( Going by Ebay trends )
If you have a really high millage camera , yeah , not many people want to spend $$ on such when you can buy a brand new K50 from about $400 now ..
New prices have a tendency to drive down used prices , especially when the new camera price comes down ..
So you have the K500 and K50 as direct competition to used cameras ..
I still see a few cases of older cameras being priced more than new cameras ( K3 and K5iis come to mind as well the K30 ) , so it would pay to check around carefully ..
But the used camera market is still a little all over the place , so it pays to be careful .
I just purchased a Kx because the price was where I was prepared to pay for such an old camera , but I still see people wanting around $500 for a Kx ( ??????? come on ! )
Now that I own a Kx , I really don't see the attraction , and I would think a K500 would kick it to the curb hard ...
So if you find some one prepared to pay crazy $$ for a Kx , take the money and run , don't walk , and buy a K500 ..

Hmmm , Both my K20D's ended up costing me about $250 quite some time ago .. ( Body Value )
One was around 10,000 , the other was under 5000 ... One came from the USA ( VIA Forum ) and the other was local ( Forum member ) ...

I don't know what millage is on that K10 , but if its under 5000 , and the lower it is , start adding $$ ..
The cleaner it is ...

Now always remember its only worth what some one is prepared to pay , .....

Say it was a Mint ( Body condition ) K10 with 1000 Actuations or less , I would suggest that there could be some one out there prepared to pay $300+ for it ...
Now I have seen some serious prices on such K10's ( $500 or more with 2 kit lenses bag etc )
I did see a NIB K10D , and the price was HIGH ! , and I think it sold relatively quickly because I didn't see it again . ( Priced around the same as a K5iis )

So there is some demand out there from what I have seen for the K10
The K20 on the other hand , seems to take longer to sell , but recently they have begun to vanish off ebay , so maybe people are buying them ?

Why would you keep a K20D if you sell your K-7? The latter being a better camera.

Sell all the cameras except the K-5. Purchase a K-3 and keep the K-5 as backup. With the money left, buy more lenses. Glass is good forever. Bodies are cheap compared to good glass.

I've investigated the "CCD has better colours" claims in the past. IMO, this is nothing more than a warmer white balance on the old CCD bodies. DXOMark shows newer bodies have greater colour depth. Warm up the WB on a CMOS photo and the technical superiority will show through. Personally I find CCD too warm and the later bodies (from K-x onward), too cool. I prefer the K20D's OOC colour balance over any Pentax I've owned (not sure where K-7 fits). None of this matters much because I always shoot raw. WB is whatever I want it to be.

CCD vs. CMOS: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

I'm a big K20D fan. It took over as my main camera from the K100D Super. I had it before buying a K-x, K-5 and K-01, and it has outlasted all of those. The K-3 has taken over lead position for the past 11 months.

A K20D is easily superior to a K10D, IMO. A K-5 is superior to a K20D except in one important aspect. AF on the K-5 sucks, it is unreliable in coloured light. That's why I sent mine back and never replaced it.

For me

I just didn't like the K7 for Macro , the images from the K20 were actually better than from the K7 ..
I don't know if it was just the individual camera ? or what ..

But the decision was made to replace the K7 with a K50 , and I haven't regrated it ...

Luftfuss,

Nice idea - I might do this as a goodbye kiss to the camera bodies (see below comments)

Andi Lo

Fair points - I think selling all of them is now on the cards - I should purchase a K3 with the proceeds and be done with it.

Zav, ebooks4pentax and audiobomber

All your comments, combined, make a lot of sense ..... I may now choose that pathway and buy a K3 (except with one variance - I will sell the K5 too as my K30 and 2X K01's are just as good backups)

old4570,

I agree re: K7. It is really not that much better than the K20D and for macro it isn't performing as I would expect.

>>>>>>>

So the conclusion at the moment is to sell the K10d, K20d, K5 and K7 leaving me with the K30, 2 X K01's and cash for a K-3

Re: K3

I don't know that I would buy a K3 in 2014 , Im personally waiting for the updated K3 ( K3i or K3ii - what ever Ricoh calls it ) , this will give me more options . Buy a K3 or the updated K3 ..
+ There is the rumoured/speculated update to the K50 ( 24MP ? )

I was speaking to a major dealer here in the UK about tethering becoming available on the K3 since the 645 variants have it and asked him to ask pentax about it and he let slip their pentax rep last week when questioned about a FF just grinned and said watch this space.

Read in to that what you want? Btw forget tethering for anything in the future apart from 645
