Japanese Lilac

The Japanese Lilac in the front yard is in full bloom. Took the K20D out. My K-S2 has been at KEH for repair for three months now. Still love using the K20D.

night and morning over the Iowa River

If you all will forgive the intrusion of a movin' picture:

One use my continued uses for the K20D has been shooting time-lapses when camping. A camera with a more modern sensor would do the job with less noise (and yeah I might switch to the K-1ii next time around), but when at a state park setting up within sight of a public trail, I feel a little more secure risking the older hardware. At its age and after all the abuse I've put it through, the K20D certainly owes me nothing -- every shutter click is gravy. Honestly do these ever wear out?

This is with an external intervalometer and AC power supply connected with a long extension cord to our cabin. The night sequence is shot at one frame every 80 seconds; after the exposure adjustment for daytime you'll see the frame rate change to every 10 seconds. The lens is a DA15. There is some stray light from a nearby floodlamp visible in the right-hand tree.

The K20D greens were the first thing I noticed when I "test drove" the camera before buying it (my first DSLR) and it remains one of my favorite things about it, along with the skin colors, which to me are unbeatable.

Am I talking myself into buying another K20D?

I have considered that myself, they can be had for less than $150, maybe even $100.

Well, I've done it again. I just acquired a low-shutter count K20D with three lenses, a charger and a bag for $150. The camera only has about 3,000 shutter actuations and is in beautiful condition. It has one odd distinction of being the only second hand Pentax on which the firmware had already been updated when I got it. The lenses it came with are the ubiquitous DA 18-55mm AL II, a plastic craptastic silver FA 28-90mm zoom, and a Vivitar 1 28-105mm manual focus, auto-aperture zoom. I've had this camera's 'evil twin', the Samsung GX-20, for almost three years and haven't used it all that much but this camera addresses all of the Samsung's shortcomings, such as not being compatible with the BG2 battery grip I have for my K01D, difficulty writing to memory cards larger than 16GB, and a sticky memory card door. These things have caused me to consistently pass over the Samsung when I'm grabbing a camera to go out and shoot, so I'm thinking I may hang the 28-90 lens on it and put it up for sale to recoup some of my purchase price. I'll probably experiment a little more with the Vivitar lens before I make a final decision on whether to keep it.
