Norm, if you set the camera to manual focus, it will fire without having anything in focus.

The thought of setting anything to manual makes me anxious, but I'll give it a try, thanks.

Yes, you definitely need to set the camera to manual focus for MF lenses.

You also might want to check and see if the camera is set for "catch in" focus in the custom menu, that could be contributing to the shutter not going off when you push the button. Catch-In focus is probably handy for some users, but I am finding I prefer to have it turned off so that the camera always fires when I tell it too. Probably just a personal preference thing.

I'm back! I got another K20D from a forum member and it's in beautiful shape. I'll be posting some images soon.

Great shot! Beautiful dog. I have a bunch of Pentax cameras but that K20D is such a workhorse I find myself going back to it over and over.

Yep, I like it too. It and the K10D are really comfortable in my hands.

Shot this on a late sunny afternoon several days ago. K20D with Tamron 90mm macro. Very sharp lens. This is a hefty crop.

Thank you, wtlwdwgn. Your very kind! Normally, a photo taken around here at this time of the year would be a winter snow scene!

Very nice photo beachboy2. I did a double take (I grow nasturtiums also) but then noticed you live in the southern hemisphere

You have piqued my interest in that lens. But looks like it is a rare one.
